Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Ingram grew up in what he called "a negative religious environment". A pastor for over 30 years, Chip is the author of many books, including Culture Shock, The Real Heaven, The Real God, The Invisible War, and Love, Sex, and Lasting Relationships.

Combs explains his anxiety as a unique form of OCD called Purely Obsessional OCD, which affects his thoughts and comes in waves. “First time I can remember is probably middle school kind of up to the end of college, and I still have my moments here and there,” he says.
